Cedar Mesa

Dave and I went down to the Cedar Mesa area this weekend. We had three slot canyons planned out to hike and rappel. We got there on Thursday and set up camp. On Friday we had planned to hike Fry Canyon. We got to the canyon and got all of our gear ready to go. As we looked off into the distance we saw some dark clouds. Because of the clouds and our feelings we made the decision not to hike any of the slots that day. We went and did some other activities in the area and as we were driving back past Fry Canyon we saw this:

We were so glad we made the decision not to go down into any slot canyons that day. The canyon was totally dry a couple hours earlier! It was a pretty cool thing to see. How often do you get to see a flash flood?

We did not feel comfortable hiking any slot canyons on this particular weekend so we made a change of plans and drove to Natural Bridges National Monument where we found that the whole area was under a high flash flood warning. We spent the night there and on Saturday we drove to Lake Powell. We had some time to kill so we took a swim in the lake and then crossed Lake Powell on the Charles Hall Ferry. We went home a couple days early but we will be back!
